CONSERVATION TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION CENTER (CTIC) SEEKS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (June 30, 2022)—The Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC) islaunching a search for a new executive director as Mike Komp, who led the organization for the past three years, moves on to a new opportunity.

​"CTIC has strengthened its capabilities under Mike's leadership, and we wish him great success in his new endeavors as we take on the next stage of the organization's growth," says Mark White of Syngenta, CTIC's board chair. 

​CTIC is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, making 2022 an exciting time to enlist a new leader, notes the organization's past chair, Mark Schmidt, associate vice chancellor at North Carolina State University. 

​"CTIC's role—to bring people and information together to champion and promote conservation agriculture—is just as relevant and engaging as it was in 1982," says Schmidt. "Conservation farming remains a dynamic, exciting, hot-button topic with a significant societal impact within the farm community and well beyond it. Like CTIC, conservation has grown to encompass the latest science around carbon capture, soil health, remote sensing, and more."

​The Conservation Technology Information Center brings together farmers, crop advisers, policymakers, agribusiness leaders, conservation personnel, researchers and others interested in systems that help make farmers more economically and environmentally sustainable. Current projects include:

• The Operational Tillage Information System (OpTIS), which uses satellite imagery and a special algorithm to document the adoption of soil-building farming practices;
• Spearheading stimulus projects that encourage phosphorus management to protect surface waters in the Western Lake Erie Basin;
• Conducting educational programs on conservation practices;
• Hosting technical conferences with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency;
• and more.

​An ideal candidate will combine leadership skills, technical acumen and a passion for helping farmers succeed with practices that help them become more economically and environmentally sustainable, says board chair White.

​"We are eager to connect with a leader whose technical savvy, business sense and vision enable them to think strategically about the future of conservation agriculture and CTIC," he says. "We are ready to set the course for CTIC's next 40 years."
